This book consists mainly of the conversations between Alfred Schnittke and Alexander Ivashkin (1985-1992). The topics of the talks are very different:

personal recollections, philosophical reftlections, bold and critical remarks on

everyday reality. Of course, music itself remains the most important topic of all.

A. Schnittke speaks not only about his own music, but also music of classical

composers, and music written by his contemporaries.

One could find also artiles and essays by A. Schnittke in this book - along with other musicians' and artists' reflections on his music.

All the materials are being published now for the first time - with the exception of

some already published (indicated at the end of each article).
